Our pre-kindergarten classroom successfully prepares children for the transition to kindergarten
creativity and fun coupled with a more formalized structure
Our pre-k classroom runs on a set schedule so that the children know exactly what is going to happen each day – consistency helps the children feel safe and allows them to feel in control and successful. School work includes learning to write letters and numbers, and learning their first and last name. We also support pre-reading and reading when they’re ready including take home reading bags and one on one learning times (only if the child shows interest and readiness for reading, it is never forced). We also spend time on basic math, music, and prioritize lots of time for play – the highest form of learning. Play helps with problem solving, negotiation, social skills, etc. Our pre-k students also take regular field trips with a school bus for fun and education.
Mealtimes are also an important part of our day. We all sit down for family style eating, where children pass the food and serve themselves, take as much as they want, and poor their own milk. The children are involved with the cooking and they routinely make their own afternoon snacks When possible, they use the things they’ve grown in our garden to cook with.
Our program is designed for learning pre-kindergarten skills. We utilize creative curriculum and Learning Without Tears – Get Set For School. We communicate throughout the day with messages and photos through the Brightwheel app. Parents and guardians can check children in and out, receive pictures and moments, and message back and forth.
Our teachers use the Brightwheel App to communicate with families during school time. We record and share details of the day, including photos. The app allows us to collaborate about your child throughout the day, so that you aren’t limited to sharing information at drop-off and pick-up.
